Refurbishment of Larne Market Yard

Renovation of the Grade B1 listed Market Yard

Larne Market Yard, a listed early Victorian market complex was once an integral part of the town but having suffered fire damage and underuse it needed a complex restoration. The refurbishment project involved creating office and workshop accommodation, community facilities, indoor and outdoor market and event spaces, all within the existing building structure.

The exterior features of The Market Yard have been enhanced thanks to two specialist solutions provided by RTU; exposa®  decorative concrete and ready to use lime putty mortar which retain the Market Yard’s resonance.

The impressive exposa® decorative concrete by RTU was the ideal answer for the 1800 square metres of Market Yard. Exposa® offered the perfect balance of providing a hard wearing, slip resistant finish and was the product of choice over plain concrete, traditional paving, asphalt and loose gravel. Exposa® offered a natural aggregate finish with the durability and structural integrity of concrete but with a wide variety of rich colours and textures. This allowed the architect to tailor the product to retain the Victorian look of the Market Yard.

Over time, weathering and decay caused voids in the joints of the Market Yard’s original stone walls therefore require much attention.  RTU supplied a ready mixed lime putty mortar to repoint the walls which brought them back to their former glory.

RTU has the perfect solution for a complex restoration or contemporary new-build. Over two decades of practical knowledge and product range gave them the capabilities of meeting exact and individual requirements. With clients stretching across Northern Ireland they’re consistently a top-class provider for leading architects and builders.
